About the Great Green Wall Initiative
The Great Green Wall Initiative is an African-led programme that focuses on restoring degraded land and improving livelihoods in areas affected by desertification. In addition, the initiative promotes food security, climate adaptation, and environmental sustainability.
In Nigeria, the programme operates through the National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW). As a result, national actions align with regional and continental goals. Moreover, the initiative directly supports the Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 15 (Life on Land).
Key Responsibilities
The National Support Consultant will play an active role in supporting the Great Green Wall Initiative in Nigeria. Specifically, the consultant will:
- Support advocacy, communication, and visibility activities at the national level
- Strengthen stakeholder engagement and partnerships related to land restoration
- Coordinate national actions with regional Great Green Wall strategies
- Promote data-driven storytelling that highlights environmental and community impact
- Contribute to reporting, coordination, and knowledge-sharing activities
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
- An advanced degree in environmental studies, sustainable development, communications, policy, or a related field
- Proven experience in environmental programmes, climate action, or land restoration initiatives
- Strong communication, coordination, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Experience working with government institutions, civil society, or UN-related programmes is an added advantage
